What Does it Mean to be 'Grounded'?

In response to this:

"The decline of the West is not necessary or historically inevitable. It is the result of choosing policies dictated by its rentier interests."

Isn't it because people have lost their connection to the land - the interface between what the senses can detect... and everything else?

Even our best intellects aim way too low here...
