Introducing Obedience Theory

Introducing Obedience Theory

Let me put forward an idea that might be new to you. We'll call it 'obedience theory'.
At its core, the theory explains how obedience serves as the main way people climb socially and economically. You can dig into the articles on this site for a proper deep dive.
In any society built on hierarchy - and they all are - obedience underpins every decision we make. Other factors play a role in our social drives, but they're far less important. They're just theatrical offshoots of obedience.

Choosing Your Tribe

As a citizen, I will pick obedience to the authority that spins the tale I most want to hear. That's my tribe. I give it my obedience as the key thing to advance socially and economically. Of course, I do other stuff to get ahead. But obedience tops the list by miles.
Public displays of obedience to my tribe - what I call 'signalling' - trump everything else in social and economic terms.
This even beats out abstract principle values like objective facts, morals, saving the planet, or seeking truth. I know it sounds mad. But isn't being obedient the most rational choice? It always pays off!

The Power of Signalling

The beauty of obedience theory lies in this: you don't need to act it out in risky ways, though protests, activism, or running for office, although these things can help.
The real trick? You rise faster in the social ladder if you signal obedience better than everyone else. It's all relative.
These days, you can send powerful signals from your armchair. No need to risk a thing.
To secure the best future for your family and descendants, your top duty is mastering how to signal obedience.
Reframe your thinking this way, and you'll boost your success more than through hard work, skill, industry, intelligence, or luck. Obedience!

Hierarchy's Rewards

In a hierarchy-driven society, obedience to that structure means everything. The whole population rewards it highly - winners and losers alike. Disobedience leads to exile, a kind of social death sentence, so beware if you chose rebellion. That's the drive behind cancel culture and state censorship. It's not evil per se; it just works. Leaders and followers all sync up to obedience.
We can bang on about morals and other such rotten virtue laundering. But that's a mistake. Lead your life by abstract principles, and you'll lose. I'm not saying I like this state of things. I am simply observing it happening.
Obedience isn't a conscious choice you manage with your ego as an individual. It's a hard fact of the collective psyche - happening for real in the collective unconscious. It has a life of its own, far stronger than any government or global leader. It is the overall authority. Obedience IS authority. Maybe the ultimate authority.

Becoming the Proxy

So, I act as an obedient tool of the authority I've wilfully chosen. Backing my tribe's story means everything. If I signal obedience well, I climb high. If I'm the best at it, the less obedient ones lift me to the top. They confer that status onto me - it is not something I can earn like doing work. Just signalling obedience better than the rest. Through signalling, I 'earn' it. I become their proxy. In the end though, power is conferred onto me, by the people in my tribe because I have signalled obedience better than everyone else.
So wealth and power are a proxy for the collective of people they signal for in the tribe. Its the act of a spoiled child to complain about them. Yes, go ahead and complain about the other tribe's proxy, that is rational.
Obedience theory succeeds because the tribe rewards top signallers. The state exploits this since it works. Nobody escapes it - we're all driven by obedience above all.
By authority, I don't mean wealth and power alone. The tribe as a collective is power. The old 'wealth and power' trope just describes those who've signalled best and risen up from the people's conference. We blame wealth and power unconsciously to signal our jealousy they have succeeded in signalling obedience and we have not. Its a confession of loss.

From Bottom to Top

This obedience principle runs equally from bottom to top. No one escapes - weak or strong, minnow or president. We're all unconsciously active in this obedience network we politely call society.
Tribes compete; let's call them 'obedience partitions'. The whole network splits into these competing partitions. It might have more than two partitions temporarily, but it always settles to two. That's the most efficient natural configuration - the minimum needed to function best in that time and place. Two is the sweet spot. That's why we see left and right, white race and the rest, them and us - a duality is where obedience lives.
Only one other tribe is required to signal obedience to my own in the most effective way. I dilute my own signals if I'm obedient to more than one tribe. These characters are called 'heretics' and both tribes will attempt to have them killed or sent into exile.

Scrutinising the Idea

I'm not judging obedience theory as good or bad. Not saying we should ramp it up or scrap it. I'm just spotlighting it for scrutiny. It seems wild, yet it fits what we see on the telly and in the news better than other ideas. That doesn't prove it's true, but given it fits better than the alternatives surely it deserves as much attention as the alternatives.
For 20 years, I've reached out to folks in the 'entertainment' industry—experts, influencers, leaders. It falls on deaf ears. They don't point out flaws or seek clarification. They just ignore it or attack me personally in the hope of shutting down the scrutiny. That seems like a strong signal backing the idea if even top influencers obey authority and cannot pass The Orwell Test.

My Background

I used to be highly active in UK politics, so I'm no beginner. Speaking from that experience doesn't make me right, of course. But diving into that mad world let me observe the craziness up close, a thousand times, gaining much primary and real life evidence.
Check my rants on northstokelife.com for more. It might seem harsh or scattered. That's because I'm urging you—perhaps for the first time - to look past the main show, hit the picture-in-picture button, and watch that smaller screen. See if something new pops up.
This goes especially for those who think they're already awake. It's a tall order for you to undertake, certainly. But if we're serious about understanding this giant 'simulation' and fixing it, what else could the process be but big?
I trade as tohonesty.com, but that's mostly separate. Though it overlaps with the wild crypto narrative - which also barely touches reality - yet billions believe it religiously and gamble their savings away for the tribe. Again!

Where Are We Going?

Have a ponder on obedience. It's really an evolution of what Eric Blair wrote so brilliantly. Three-letter agencies use the theory because it delivers control of the great mass of people, at scale.
But the spell can be broken. I see it in the clash between the President and the world—another duality. Maybe with Mr. Lowe now too. They still obey the tribe; but more authentically than others. We are entering the first global civil war. They are leading it as a new kind of tribe. They will still require obedience. Obedience will still be the tool. Obedience will still work.
For you as an individual I will say that God does not want your obedience, but your autonomy. That is all.

A Dialogue on the UK's Accession to the United States (UKEXIT)

A Dialogue on the UK's Accession to the United States Executive Summary This initiative seeks to foster a formal dialogue regarding the potential accession of the countries of the United Kingdom , to the United States , as individual states.  Being English the main focus is for the country of England to accede. The original intent was to ask the government to lead on it through a petition leading to the question coming before the House of Commons. This was crushed out of hand by the committee leading petitions, which was not a surprise.  Simply put, this petition is asking the government to start a conversation about the benefits of leaving the UK and joining the United States. Let us call the initiative UKEXIT (yukezit) The objective is to evaluate the benefits to citizens and stakeholders, encouraging a constructive discourse on the political, economic, and social implications of such a union. If Wales , Northern Ireland , Scotland , or  England were to leave the Unit...

The 450 Volt Truth: From Orwell to Obedience

A Complete Thread on Dystopia, Milgram, and Breaking the Agentic State - Why People Act Irrationally and Often Violently When a Tribal Social Structure and Its Hierarchy Are Brought Under Serious Scrutiny This is a tricky topic. Please read the Obedience Glossary of Terms before proceeding Executive Summary This piece was written from a long conversation with Grok. I had to interrogate the AI quite a bit. And was astonished at how it produced such intelligence. I've included the most pertinent parts. Do not be fooled into thinking this is just another Orwell analysis. That is just setting the scene well. For what comes later on the agentic state and how power uses it to control the masses.  It may not have all the answers. It might wrong. A lot of it is very hard to believe is happening. But it still seems to fit the bizarre world of system wide dissonance we all live and partake in today, better than all the alternatives. So deserves your continued attention. By all means make yo...

Government & Tax Death Toll

I'm going to show you how government and taxation causes more excess death than any other factor, even global wars and pandemics. It is and always has been the biggest genocide of all. And its deliberate. Government doesn’t just fail to save lives — it takes them, at scale.  2–6 million globally 200K–400K in the U.S. 50K–80K in the UK Every year. Every tax. Every regulation. Cumulatively since 1970 government and tax killed between 160 and 300 million people across the globe  More than all 20th century wars and genocides combined (260M) In the U.S. ten times more than all U.S. combat deaths in history (10 * 1.2M) In the UK equivalent to 1 in 15 of all deaths And the nations with more regulations and a higher tax to GDP ratio such as the UK and US, tend to kill more of their own citizens per capita. The poorest nations have a better record than the richest. All this excess death is rooted in the institutions of taxation - the theft of private property, by force, against your fr...
