Even though one does not exist, we insist on creating an environment and a situation where war is very likely. So that we can satisfy a primordial fear that the world is running out of everything and there will never be enough to go around. But this is just an imaginary hold-over - a visionary rumour.
So we must fight the enemy tribe in a zero sum game to protect our own from starvation. Forever.
This is why we fight wars.
Wars are not fought such that the winner receives all the limited resources allowing that side to survive against the loser.
Wars are fought even though both sides will still have enough even the loser. Resources are not limited any more.
War is fought because the winner wants more resources than the loser so is less likely to run out of resources in the future. Even though there are plenty of resources for everybody, even the loser. A collective neurosis. A systemic pathology.
There is strong evidence for this all around us. e.g. government kills far more of its own people during peacetime than it does foreign people in wars. Clearly war is an imaginary activity to satisfy a much deeper need.
This is not the stupidity of wealth and power. It is the stupidity of the people who elect them. To criticise wealth and power for war is to reinforce the evidence for stupidity. Wealth and power are simply doing their duty as we demand they do.
So wars are fought based on the fallacy that both sides might run out of stuff even though it's obviously untrue today - there is so much wealth available, per capita, even outright stupidity cannot overwhelm the stockpile.
Dear Mr. Musk we are creating enormous wealth already, your proposal to create even more enormous wealth are a great thing, even more is welcome. It's just that believing creating even more enormous wealth is something new is further reinforcing the pathology of war I mention here. When there is no shortage of anything for anybody already.
So the real reason must be much deeper than that. It must be some kind of objective fact of the collective psyche driving the apparent stupidity.
Perhaps somewhere along the lines of the fact that we still believe the world has limited resources - certainly our actions signal that very strongly. Even though we know this is materially untrue just by Grok'ing the numbers, we still believe religiously that the world is running out of stuff and are stuck in the fear of 10,000 years ago.
In spite of the uncrushable productivity of wealth available to all, we still fear that it will run out with the first bad year of weather as we did when we first came off the plain and into the fields.
Policy of both tribes economically drives the fight in war to harmonise with this 10,000 year old fallacy which no longer exists.
So even though one does not exist, we insist on creating an environment and a situation where war is very likely so that we can satisfy this primordial feeling.
This is why we fight wars. It is also why things like climate change doctrine holds so much sway but only exists in the imagination of the people. That the jews are running the world. Aliens, moon landings, flat earth. And so on and so on.
When a long enough gap in this imaginary fear appears signalling freedom and security for all are already right here, an existential threat must be fabricated to fill it as soon as possible.
It is the first thing the leaders we elect do for us. And they do it very well. Think of it like a virus, a forever pandemic, infecting everyone. And this time, for real and forever!
It is how the collective psyche deals with an outdated instinct - primordial fear.
We do not fight the enemy because they are evil. That is just surface stuff. We do it at a much deeper level collectively, to fill a gap.
The evolution of man has some way to go to fill this gap more authentically. Maybe one day we will do it, but not today.
