Universal Basic Income: Why it's Terrible Stupid Planet Saving Idea with Untold Unintended Consequences
There are rich people in "poor countries" and poor people even in the "richest countries".
Aid from rich countries to poor countries robs the poor in the rich countries and is grabbed by the rich in the poor countries. Reverse Robin Hood.
In most of the poor countries - there is a long list - nearly all the land is owned by a handful of families who pay little or no tax and squeeze their poor fellow countrymen for their last grain of wheat, to pay in rent. Probably like that in Sri Lanka if you scratch below the surface. Who owns the tea plantations? How do they get people to work on them for next to nothing? If they got a basic income the plantation owners would pay them even less.
Same in Latin Americ, but the land owners are US corporations. This has also happened in Ukraine.
Then there are the banks. If small landowning farmers have a bad season they have to borrow money and the banks get the land. This happens even in Europe and the USA.
The system is rotten all the way through. Nothing about that from the Pope or Al Jazz.
