The state is now attacking its own people and dishing out protected rights to foreigners

And I think this reason is that this government hates its own country.

Why would it do this? 

1) it's stupid?

2) it's corrupt?

3) it's trying to save the planet? 

All these possibilities simply do not seem adequate considering the scale of what it is doing to its own country. 

When all other possibilities have been eliminated the improbabilities no matter how improbable must be the reason.

And I think this reason is that this government hates its own country.
